DraftThis post has not been reviewed by a lawyer yet. It is general information about Queensland law, not legal advice.
People come here in a bad week. You may be typing about your job, your home or your family. You should know what happens to those words.
This is the plain version. The full privacy policy is at /privacy.
You do not need to give your name
You can use the site without telling us who you are. There is no account to make and no form to fill in before you read a guide.
Please leave names and contact details out of the search box and the chat. That means your name, other people's names, phone numbers, emails and addresses. We do not need them to point you to the right guide. If you leave them out, there is less to protect.
You can describe what happened without them: "my landlord gave me a letter", not "Jo at Smith Realty gave me a letter".
Nothing goes to a lawyer unless you agree
What you type is not sent to a lawyer on its own. If you ask us to pass your details to a lawyer or a service, we show you a consent first. It says what would be shared and with whom. You read it, then choose.
If you do not agree, nothing is passed on. You can still read every guide.
What we measure
We want to know whether the site works. For example, which guides people read and where they get stuck. To do that we use page analytics designed to be privacy-friendly.
- It does not use cookies.
- It does not keep a profile of you across visits.
- It does not record your screen or your keystrokes.
- It never records what you type into the search or the chat. It sees that a page was visited, and which topic, not your words.
- It is switched off if your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
That is all we use it for: counting visits and seeing which pages help.
Why this matters on a legal site
Legal problems are private. Some involve disputes, money or safety. Even a short note about your job could be sensitive.
If you are worried about someone seeing this site on a shared device, use the quick exit button on the page. Clear your browser history if you need to.
Questions
Read the full policy at /privacy. For what we are and are not, see why we called it Not A Lawyer. When you are ready to look at your problem, start with the guide that fits, such as a notice to leave or being sacked.
